Finally...

...A weekend all my own! Kelly and I have been on the move lately—filling our weekends with travel. Don’t get me wrong, we LOVE catching up and hanging out with our friends and family, but we haven’t had a weekend at home (and all to ourselves) in over a month. Literally. I just checked the calendar. Here’s a quick recap of the last month’s weekends:
  • September 26: Wedding for an old high school friend :)
  • October 3: Headed to Cowboys Stadium to watch the A&M vs. Arkansas joke game
  • October 10: Traveled to Waco to visit Michael and Virginia and watch the A&M vs. OSU game
  • October 17: Flew to Austin with Jen to celebrate her 26th birthday with a Day-O-Shopping!
  • October 24: Kelly’s B-Day! Traveled to Big Spring to visit his family and celebrate!

So see, we’ve had plenty of fun all along the way, but our poor little house has been missing us. And I’ve been missing the peaceful, quiet time home with nothing to do. Well, there’s plenty to do, just nothing “planned.”

So, this past Saturday was glorious in every sense of the word. The weather was beautiful, we gained an hour, and I was over-the-top productive! I didn’t really take advantage of the extra hour and sleep, but I did wake up before 8:00 am and got on with the day. I did a load of dishes; cleaned, swept, and mopped the kitchen; vacuumed the living room; worked out; ran errands (some of which included Christmas shopping!); went to the grocery store; and made it home in time to get ready and cook dinner for us and our Halloween guests, the Smiths. We made fajitas (Kelly grilled the meat of course), I made homemade guacamole, and they brought pumpkin pie and apple cider. YUM! And of course, we had a bowl full of candy so we could see all our trick-or-treaters. Surprisingly, we didn’t have that many. But if you want to know where to go to get the “good candy” just come to our house—my husband gives away handfuls at a time. We did have one very cute trick-or-treater. Our conversation went a little something like this:

Me: “Oh my goodness! You are so cute! Are you Scarlett O’Hara?”

4 Year Old: “Um. No. I’m a Southern Belle.”

Me: (Feeling the age gap) “Oh. Right. I see.”

In that very moment I felt old. You know--the kind of old where even if I tried to explain to her who Scarlett O'Hara was, she'd still look at me like a had a third eye? Ya, I’m getting old.

After a fun night filled with Halloween excitement, I woke up on Sunday ready for another productive day. I was planning to go work out, finish my defensive driving course, and relax, but before I knew it, I was knee deep in cleaning out the upstairs closets. We’re not just talking straightening the shelves. No. We’re talking take everything out, look through it, trash the junk, reorganize it, and put it all back! I was in heaven! I love organizing all our stuff, and now that I can see the finished product I love it even more! Our guest room closet is now the home to my gift wrapping station and Christmas decorations. I took ALL the Christmas décor out (and almost put it up, but resisted the temptation) and put it away in matching gray storage boxes. Then I went through all the cardboard boxes that were stashed away when we moved in (yes, I know it’s been over a year and a half ago). I found a ton of Kelly’s old keepsakes and spent a while going through every last card I’d ever given him! After it was all said and done I’d spent 6 hours, gone through 2 closets, threw away 3 large cardboard boxes and a ton of junk, and felt GREAT! I can’t wait to do it all again next weekend. Just kidding…well kind of.

So, how did you spend your weekend?

I wanna see pics of your organized closet - how did you organize your gift wrap?

I am laughing so much at, "NO...I am a southern belle."

How sad, lol.
