Cole: 1 Month!

{We took our pics yesterday, but since typing requires two hands and sometimes I'm lucky to only have one free, I'm a day late in publishing this post.}

I cannot believe it is already time for me to do a one month post about our little love bug!  Everyone always says it, but seriously, WHERE does the time go?  I feel like I blinked and he grew up.  There is no doubt that this past month has been the best month of our lives!  I don't even know where to begin with the updates so I'm just going to dive right in.

Our little guy is a great eater, sleeper and is hardly ever fussy!  (Dare I put that in writing...it may seal my fate!)  During the first week we were home he was sleeping 4.5, 5, and 6 hour stretches between feedings.  (We were originally operating under the "don't wake a sleeping baby" philosophy, but I quickly learned at our 2 week check up that I need to be waking him every 2-4 hours to feed because his blood sugar could get so low that he can't wake himself up--WHAT!  Bad mom alert!!)  So now we feed every three hours during the day and can go up to four hours between feedings at night.

However, he is a little particular about the position in which he sleeps.  He LOVES to be held close, wrapped up in a warm blanket, and rocked in the rocking chair.  He also loves to sleep on Kelly's chest! Kelly has a way of putting him to sleep almost instantly, and will usually let Cole sleep on his chest between the midnight and early morning feed times.  Here are a few examples :)

Told ya!  As I mentioned--he's a good eater--and based on the last time we weighed him ourselves, he's already up to 9.4 lbs!  That's a whole 1.4 lbs up from his birth weight!!  We must be doing something right :).

I mean check out those cheeks!!

He is still wearing newborn clothes, but will be out of them soon.  He wears his 0-3 month clothes too, but they are still a little big on him.  We have graduated to size 1 diapers, but they are still a little big on him, too.  The newborn diapers are too small though, and after about 3 blowouts we decided it was time to graduate to the next size.

Speaking of blowouts, our little guy has earned himself a few nicknames.   He has the loudest toots for a one month old, and if you're holding him right after a feeding, you might even feel his power!

Tootie, Rootie Tootie, Fussy buns, Squeaker, and most recently--Chubs.

As you can imagine, these first few weeks have been a blur, but I wouldn't change it for the world!  Kelly and I are truly blessed by the amount of help we've received these past 4 weeks.
Kelly was able to stay home with us for three weeks (thank you Paternity leave!!);  my Mom spent the night with us the first week (a HUGE blessing!!) and came over almost every day for the following three weeks; my Dad came over to visit and help do "honey do" tasks around the house; and Kelly's mom stayed with us the third week (and whipped our backyard into shape!!).  There is no way we would be where we are today without the love and support of our families, and we are so thankful that we've had this time to bring us closer together.

We didn't have much down time between visitors, getting stuff done around the house, and getting settled into our little routine, but now that things are settling down I'm sure we'll be going on our first outing pretty soon.

I need to post all the pictures we've taken, but that will have to wait for another post.  We are like the paparazzi around here and don't want to miss a single moment!  Our picture gallery is out of control!

However, here's one little nugget we discovered this week.  There's no denying it...Cole is the spitting image of his Papa!

Birth Story

This post may bore you out of your mind, but I wanted to capture every last detail of Cole's birth story before I forget.

But before I can tell you about the birth I need to back up and bring you up to speed on the last few weeks of my pregnancy.

Background: At my 36 week Dr appointment, Friday, September 23, I started showing signs of high blood pressure (BP). The numbers weren't extremely alarming, but definitely something worth watching over the next few weeks.

At my 37 week Dr appointment, Friday, September 30, my BP was even higher than the week before so the doctor ordered me to go on bed rest for the weekend to see if that would help bring it down.

I went back to the doctor the following Monday, October 3, for a sonogram and check up. Cole's heart rate was strong, and according to the sonogram he was 6 lbs. 15 oz and doing great. My BP maintained an OK level over the weekend so the doctor ordered bed rest for the rest of the week with orders to increase my weekly visits to semi weekly.

I went back to the Dr on Thursday, October 6, at 11:00 am and my BP had not gone down all week--even on bed rest, so the doctor told us it was go time! She made us an appointment with Labor and Delivery to check in Thursday night at 8:00 pm. We were going to have a baby the next day!!

Kelly and I were in shock and spent the rest of the afternoon on Thursday wrapping up loose ends at work, calling family and friends, packing the car, and enjoying our last meal (Texas Roadhouse) as a family of two. Of course, we had to make a quick run to Target on our way to the hospital for a few snacks and goodies. My mom and I always joke that we're always hitting up Target :) so it's only fitting that I went right before giving birth.

Labor and Delivery: We got to the hospital about 7:40 pm (alarming early for us since we're almost always late!), grabbed up all the bags we could carry (yes--we had to even leave some in the car for lack of hands. I didn't want to be "without.") and headed to the nurses station to check in. We dropped our bags off in our room, filled out some paperwork, and then it was time to get settled in for the night.

Around 9:30 pm I had to get a cervidil insert to help thin my cervix so that the induction the next morning would progress a little easier. I had the sweetest nurse, Vicki, that kept trying to calm our nerves and ease our anxiety. Side note: When I look back on the entire labor and delivery process I realize the Lord provided the exact type of nurse I needed at the right time. HE is good!!

After the extremely painful cervidil process was over, Kelly and I snuggled up and watched a few movies on his laptop until finally falling asleep.

Friday, October 7--The big day:

6:45 am--Vicki woke me up and told me it was time to prep for the induction. I could take one last shower to freshen up and then it was go time! We had a quick nurse change (to Carie) at 7:00 am and then they prepped my arm for the pitocin drip.

7:30 am--They start with the pitocin drip. They hooked me up to an IV, two stomach monitors, and a blood pressure cuff, which I quickly figured out was the most annoying part of the whole process!

9:30 am--my BP was rising and Carie suggested I get my epidural to help alleviate some of the stress on my body. Side note: Kelly and I went into this process wanting to deliver with as little drugs as possible. We attended an amazing natural child-birthing class and were fully prepared to labor as far as I could on my own before starting any drugs. So, needless to say, this whole situation was not playing out like I had planned. Only further proof of why God is in control and I am not!!

After the anesthesiologist gave me my epidural I was a whole new woman. Kelly said I started talking the nurses arm off and seemed really relaxed. However, the epidural wasn't the cure-all we were hoping for, so shortly thereafter the doctor put me on a mild blood pressure medication to see if that would help. Unfortunately, that medicine didn't help at all and so the doctor ordered the worst medicine of all--magnesium sulfate. She warned me before this process started that she would use the drug only as a last resort. It makes you to feel like you have the flu--chills, sweats, nausea, etc.--and once administered I would have to stay on the drug for 24 hours post delivery. Magnesium sulfate is prescribed for two reasons: to combat high blood pressure and to slow down contractions in women who go into premature labor. So my body was thoroughly confused on what to do between the pitocin drip and the magnesium.

After the magnesium kicked in I began to progress in the labor process. By noon-ish I was dilated to a 3-4, by early afternoon I had reached a 5-6, and by 5:00 pm I was at a 9.5 and 100% effaced.

My Dr came in to check me after her office hours and told me she'd be back at 7:00 pm to check me again and we'd begin the pushing process. When she came back to check on me I had not progressed any further and was beginning to develop a temperature. Taking into account all the factors and our health--the doctor said it was best to move forward with a c-section. Needless to say after 13 hours of labor, I was completely devastated to deliver via c-section, but my supportive husband offered some light at the end of the tunnel--we would be meeting our son in less than an hour!! We were more than ready after the day we had!

My amazing nurse Carie was done with her shift at 7:00 pm (just before I headed into surgery) and the nurse that came on shift was named Lisa.  Lisa prepped me for surgery and in no time they were wheeling me down the hall to the OR.

8:00 pm--We were making our way into the OR when the anesthesiologist ran into my head with my medicine stand.  I couldn't believe it, but that is something that would totally happen to me in the middle of everything else that was going on!  Kelly arrived shortly after I was in the OR and was decked out in his scrubs.  The sheet went up between the doctors and us, and after a little more medicine in my epidural kicked in, the doctors quickly got to work.

8:22 p.m.--HE ARRIVED!  Kelly Coleman O'Donnell joined this world and was absolutely perfect in every sense of the word.  He was 8 lbs., 21 inches long, and had brown/blond hair.  Since he had been in the birth canal so long he had a little bit of a cone head and some minor facial bruising, but I couldn't tell.  He was here and he was ours!!  We were THRILLED.  He didn't cry much when the doctors pulled him out and seemed to be a very content baby--Praise the Lord!

Between all the medicines and the stress on my body, I was literally getting sick as the doctors were pulling him out and stitching me back up.  I was so weak and nauseous that I couldn't hold him right away, so Kelly had to go to the recovery room with Cole while the doctors finished with me.

When I finally got to the recovery room there was still a lot of setting up to be done, and it felt like FOREVER before our families were able to come in and see us.  We had skin-to-skin time before any visitors came in, but once we were done with our first feeding everyone came in to see him.  We were all exhausted and so were they--but it was all worth it in the end to see Cole's precious face and to get to hold him.

The next 24 hours were a complete blur to me.  I was still on the magnesium sulfate medicine and I could barely carry on a conversation with anyone.  I was still really nauseous and was continuing to get sick throughout the day.  I just wanted to feel normal again!!  Around 5:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon during a breast feeding lesson, my IV came loose.  That was the best thing that could have happened to me!!  The nurse checked with the Dr. to see if she needed to re-stick me and he said it was OK for me to stop taking the medicine!!!  The nurse didn't waste any time in taking off the blood pressure cuff, leg casings (to prevent blood clots), epidural, catheter, and IV!  I was finally a free woman.

After we loaded up all our stuff, we headed into our post partum room where we stayed until we checked out on Monday morning.  This room was significantly smaller than than the recovery room we were in the day before, but that was OK by me.  I was just thankful that I was on my way to feeling like my old self again.

We were lucky to have tons of visitors and great nurses to make the rest of our stay at the hospital enjoyable. Between the nurses, doctors, lactation consultants, and friends and family--there was never a dull moment around that place!

My doctor made one last visit on Monday morning before we were released from the hospital--and I'll never forget that visit.  As a result of having a c-section my doctor was able to see that I have a mis-shaped uterus (which was possibly another problem contributing to my difficult delivery process); only have one ovary and one fallopian tube that works correctly--which explains why it took us so long to get pregnant with sweet Cole to begin with--and she could only see one kidney!  What?!

She wasn't completely certain about the kidney, so I have to go back in and have a CT scan done to see if the other one was hiding, or if I do in fact only have one kidney.  After learning about all those extenuating circumstances that I had NO idea about, I was beyond thankful that the Lord had his hand over the whole situation, and that he gave the Drs the wisdom to take Cole when they did.

The entire birth process was a HUGH learning curve and eye-opener to me, and was truly an amazing miracle witness.

Stay tuned for more updates on our precious one; doctors visits; check-ups; outings; visitors; early days at home; lessons learned from a three week old mom; and our first holiday!!

The BIG 3-0!!

Well...I'm back in the saddle with a pregnancy update :)

How far along are you?  I am excited to announce that this past weekend I hit 30 weeks in my pregnancy!

We have less than 10 weeks to go before we meet our bundle of joy!

65 days to be exact (if all goes as planned)!

Size of the baby?  According to the "what to expect when you're expecting" app on my phone, our bundle of joy is 18 inches long, 3.2 lbs--about the side of a head of lettuce.  However, I don't trust their comparison to food anymore.  The baby is WAY bigger than a head of lettuce.

How are you feeling?  I am feeling great and have been out of the "morning sickness" phase for a few months now.  I have tons of energy (at least in my mind I do--sometimes my body slows me down and I'm not able to do everything on my "to do" list), and I am able to move around pretty easily.  Except for the time that I got stuck after I wedged myself between the bathroom wall and the toilet as i was trying to hang beadboard in our downstairs bath :/ But other than that, I can't complain!

My hands have started to swell (I can no longer wear my rings) and there have been two occasions where my left foot has gotten a little swollen.  The first time it happened I was out running errands in this Texas heat when I looked down and nearly DIED when I saw the bulge on the inside of my ankle.  I laughed so hard I cried and ran right home to put my feet up!  I know the inevitable is coming, but I'm trying to delay it as much as possible!

Maternity Clothes?  I've decided that pants (unless they are SUPER STRETCHY) are no longer a wardrobe option for me if I want to have any amount of fun at all.  And my eagerness to stock up on cute maternity clothes is quickly dwindling considering I only have 2 months left to wear the biggest clothes of my life!

Gender?  I know I haven’t been great at keeping you all updated on the progress of baby O, but as you can imagine these past few months have kept me pretty busy.  For crying out loud, I haven’t even announced the gender on this little blog of mine.  I’m THRILLED to announce that our bundle of joy is a…BOY!  Kelly “Coleman” O’Donnell (he’ll go by Coleman or Cole until he earns another nickname I’m sure!)

Movement?  Mr. Cole is practicing his touchdown moves quite frequently these days.  Most often I can feel him moving right after I eat or when I lay down on the couch and am completely relaxed.  He sleeps pretty good through the night, and we haven't reached the stage yet where I'm getting up to go to the bathroom every hour.  Thank goodness.

Cravings/Aversions?  Thankfully once my morning sickness passed I haven't had any crazy cravings or aversions.  I'm back to eating meat and eggs, and have been living on my fair share of peanut butter.  I've dropped the afternoon Slurpee run, but will grab a Vanilla Ocean Water from Sonic every now and then.  Honestly, I'm trying to avoid any extra amounts of sugar or salt so I don't swell in this heat!

What I miss?  The days of sitting up without assistance are long gone.  I miss being able to bend at the waist and pretty soon I'm going to miss being able to give myself a pedicure...darn!

What I'm looking forward to?  This weekend is our friend baby shower and I am so excited I can hardly stand it!  We've already had one shower at my office, but this weekend all my girlfriends will be in town and I can't wait to see the results of all their hard work and extensive planning!

As usual, I have so much to tell you, but I wanted to post a belly photo for those of you that have been asking. Here it is…in all its glory!

Pregnancy Highlights

Just a few more updates on the baby front and we’ll be all caught up! I really want to capture my feelings and thoughts on some of the key pregnancy milestones, so here are a few questions/categories to get me started.

How far along are you? I am 17 weeks 2 days today.

Size of the baby? Baby O is the size of a sweet potato (5 inches long, 5.5 oz).

How are you feeling? Well…this is quite the topic for me. Up until we went to our first doctor’s appointment I was feeling great. In fact, no real signs of pregnancy at all! I thought I was one of the lucky ones who wouldn’t have morning sickness, and that I’d get off scott free from feeling yucky during my pregnancy. Funny how the Lord had a different plan for me!

The day after our first appointment was when the sickness set in. It was a weird feeling. I started feeling light headed in the shower and wasn’t able to stand up while drying my hair or putting on my makeup. I was nauseous and had no idea what to do to make it go away. I tried to lie down for a little while, but that wasn’t doing much. So, I pushed through the terrible feeling and tried to finish getting ready for work. Right about the time I was ready to get dressed I had my first real experience with morning sickness. (Side note: morning sickness does not limit itself to just the morning. Sometimes the feeling of nausea would last all day for me. Which I would have known had I been reading “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.”) I felt like I was having an out of body experience. I had never been that sick before and it scared me a little. I didn’t know how frequently I would get sick or if my nausea would go away or how to handle the situation at all! It was awful.

My “morning sickness” continued pretty consistently for about six weeks. I was getting sick about four times a week with some days feeling nauseous all day long. Everyone (including the doctor) said that the nausea would go away after the first trimester—but that came and went and I was still getting sick. At about 13.5 weeks it tapered off to about two times a week, and over the past two weeks I’ve only gotten sick a handful of times. However, the queasy stomach is still there and I got sick as recently as three times last Tuesday! But I’m thankful that it’s tapered off and keep telling myself it’s all worth it in the end!!

Total Weight Gain/Loss? Last time I checked I was up a total of 7.5 lbs. I gained a few lbs. at first, but didn’t gain anything between my first and second appointment. But of course, between my second and third appointment I managed to gain 5 lbs.! HOLY COW!

Maternity Clothes? I am fully into maternity clothes and have been for almost three weeks. I did the button/hair tie thing for awhile, but I was getting too uncomfortable in my jeans to keep that up any longer! Any why should I when I can wear maternity jeans—OH MY GOODNESS those are so comfortable! Seriously. Thankfully I can still wear some of my regular shirts.  I had a couple of breakdowns along the way trying to find clothes that fit—especially at first. Shopping for maternity clothes isn’t nearly as much fun as I’d hoped. Guess I’ll have to stick to shoes and accessories.

Gender? We cannot wait to find out the gender! Just 15 more days and we’ll know if we’re having a boy or a girl!! Be sure to vote in our gender poll on the right side of the blog.

Movement? I haven’t felt a definite movement yet, but I did experience what I now know to be “little flutters”. They feel a little like a butterfly is flying around in your stomach. At the time I wasn’t quite sure what it was.

Cravings/Aversions? At the very beginning it wasn’t so much what I was craving but what I didn’t want to eat that was the problem. Almost immediately after getting a positive pregnancy test my aversion to protein—poultry in particular—set in. I wanted NOTHING to do with chicken and the thought of a chicken breast literally made be gag. Any kind of meat was a huge turn off and I still haven’t been able to eat a hamburger. Nothing healthy sounded good at all. And—if you can believe it—my chocolate craving was gone. My diet consisted of baked potatoes, cheese, crackers, peanut butter and cheez-its. I was craving refried beans at first, but I QUICKLY found out that was a terrible craving to have and thus have been avoiding them like the plague ever since.

I haven’t really been craving anything in particular—but do have a hankering for something specific every now and then. We had dinner with some of our friends, The Smiths, and they made homemade rice krispie treats for dessert. Little did I know that they’d be such a hit with Baby O! Dare I confess that I’ve eaten 4 batches of rice krispie treats since then??!

I also got on a cheez-it and lemonade kick for awhile (only the Simply Lemonade brand though—everything else was too sweet). Kelly thought I was nuts for going through jugs of lemonade in just a few short days. And best of all, I do find that a good-‘ol-fashioned Slurpee will do the trick no matter what! I was having a sinking spell one afternoon while running errands with my Mom and a Slurpee sounded amazing. I haven’t stopped drinking them since. Needless to say—I think they’ll be my saving grace this summer!

What I miss? Thankfully there’s not a whole lot I’ve had to give up, but if you know me, you know I miss my morning Spark the most. I also miss not running out of breath after climbing the stairs or a brisk walk.

What I’m looking forward to? We’ve been counting down the days to find out if we’re having a boy or a girl—so I guess I’d have to say the gender reveal. But coming in a close second is the nursery! Once we know what we’re having then I’ll be able to figure out what I want the nursery to look like. Oh yea, and that I can finally start buying stuff for our little one!!

Well that’s all I’ve got for the latest pregnancy update. Until next time!

American Idol's American Idol!

We interrupt this program to bring you the latest news from American Idol!

I haven't always been a big American Idol fan, but for some reason I got sucked into it this year.  I LOVE the new judges panel (even though I was a little skeptical at first of Jennifer Lopez as a judge), and I am thrilled that my fave singer, Scotty McCreery, has made it to the final three!  I know he's not the most versatile contestant to have ever graced the Idol stage, but I love his tone, his "good 'ole boy" personality, and his conviction to stay true to his values.

This week is Homecoming Week on Idol.  The final three contestants get to go home to see their families, and they are usually welcomed by the entire town.  Below is a clip of Scotty's Homecoming Party with a fun surprise from his all time idol, Josh Turner.  Scotty sang a few of Josh's songs on Idol this year and sounds exactly like him.  It's so fun to watch Scotty's excitment when the reality sets in that it's actually Josh on stage with him. Hope you enjoy!

Now back to your regularly scheduled updates on Baby O!

May 13, 2011

What's your guess?

I thought it would be fun to take a poll of everyones guess for what Baby O will be.  We will find out on May 31 (the day after Memorial Day...18 days away, but who's counting, right??) and we are so pumped!  So, hop on over to the poll and take your best guess at whether we'll be bounding in blue or pretty in pink!

P.S. If you already voted in the poll please vote again!  Blogger was experiencing some problems yesterday and we lost the poll in the update.

Baby Bumps

I haven't been as good at taking pictures of the bump as I thought I would be, but I do have a few I can share!

12 weeks 5 days

(Please excuse my messy bathroom. However, I think you would be more shocked to see it all picked up! Just keeping it real.)

14 weeks 5 days

15 weeks 5 days
And of course, it wouldn't be Cinco de Mayo without a sombrero!

I am 16 weeks 4 days today and haven't changed much this week.  I keep anxiously waiting for the bump to pop out but I guess slow and steady wins the race :)!

The Doctor Confirms

So...after two weeks of nail biting suspense, we FINALLY had our first doctors appointment.  On Tuesday, March 8, Kel and I met up at the doctors office and walked in together.  After filling out some paperwork and little bit of a wait, we were finally called back to see the sonogram technician.  I was a little bit nervous to go into the room, but was more than ready to confirm what we already believed to be true.

Before we knew what was happening, we were looking at the screen trying to make sense of black and white blur.  The technician explained the images we were looking at, and then out of no where, we saw a little flicker on the screen.  It looked like something was swimming, but we quickly learned that we were looking at the baby's HEARTBEAT!  I could hardly believe it.  It was amazing to see the little life inside of me.  That's when it really hit us.  Kelly sqeezed my hand and I started crying.  We were witnessing one of God's little miracles!

Spreading the word...

When Kel and I found out we were expecting we agreed to keep our news a secret until the doctor confirmed and gave us the official thumbs up.  I don't know why, but we wanted to be able to say for sure, without a shadow of a doubt, that we were 100% pregnant.

However...even the best laid plans go awry.  (Remember the balloons and the onesie.  My point exactly.)

The Saturday before our appointment on Tuesday Kelly was on the phone catching up with his Mom.  They don't have long chats all that often, and toward the end of their convo he put the phone on mute and said, "I feel like I should tell her...it feels awkward not to."  I agreed and thus began the domino effect of telling our parents.  Kel knew I'd want to tell my parents ASAP, so I immediately texted my mom, dad, and brother and asked if they wanted to have lunch on Sunday after church.  Of course, they obliged, and I couldn't wait to share the good news with them.

We headed to my parents house on Sunday just as the brisket was coming out of the oven.  As my mom was slicing up the meat she started to tell me that she saw my cousin, who is about 8 weeks ahead of me, at church and that she was beginning to show.  To which I replied something like, "well, I guess I'm next because I'll be 7 weeks tomorrow {at this point I wasn't quite sure how far along I was}."  With the brisket knife in her hand, my mom threw her hands in the air, screamed, and immediately started crying.  So did my brother!  My dad was so proud he started shaking everyones hand.  It was a joyous and emotional moment for all.  We explained why we hadn't told them yet and that we had our first doctors appointment already scheduled.  It was such a relief to share my biggest secret with the ones I love most.

Tuesday couldn't come fast enough.

Reality Sets In

Let's take a quick trip down memory lane...and with pregnancy brain that's a little tougher to do these days :).

During the third week of February I had the opportunity to go to Chicago and Baltimore for work.  It was for our annual Message to the Field (I wrote about a previous trip to Baltimore for the Message to the Field here). And since we were going to be on that side of the country, I decided to tack on a fun weekend with my Mom in NYC!  Mom met me in Baltimore on Thursday, February 17 and we spent the weekend running around the city.  But more on that later--our trip deserves it's own post!  Mom and I were scheduled to come home on Sunday, but ended up getting stuck in Chicago for the night, so I didn't actually get home until Monday after work.  I was gone for a total of six days!  Three cities, four hotel rooms, and countless flights later, I was MORE than ready to get home to my hubby and pups and to sleep in my own bed.

I was also DYING to get home so I could take a pregnancy test.  I had a sneaking suspicion that I was pregnant the entire time I was on my trip, but wanted to wait until I was home with Kel before taking "the test" to confirm.  When we got home from work on Monday night I couldn't wait any longer.  I hadn't told a single soul (not even my mom!) that I thought I might be pregnant because I wanted it to be a complete surprise.  I had big plans of taking "the test", finding out, and surprising Kelly with balloons or a cute onesie or something, but it didn't quite pan out that way.

To say I was shocked would be an understatement.  Even though I already had a feeling I was pregnant, once "the test" confirmed my suspicions, I was paralyzed.  Don't get me wrong, I've been planning and preparing for this my entire life.  It's just that when the double pink lines are staring you in the face, it takes your breath away.  I didn't know whether to scream or cry or jump for joy!  Is it possible to do all three at once?

So--once I knew, I had to share the news with my baby daddy! Kelly was plopped on the couch watching TV...or maybe playing his video game (I can't remember), but I walked into the living room (sans balloons and a onesie) with "the test" in my hand, walked over to him, and showed him the results.  He looked at me in disbelief and said "are you serious??"   And then his cute little grin quickly covered his face!  After a quick moment of tears and hugs, we were left holding the biggest secret in the world!  At least, in our world.  I remember saying, "so, what do we do now" to which Kelly replied, "maybe we should call the doctor."  Good idea, babe!  {Later we would learn that the day we found out I was already 5 weeks 2 days.}

So the very next day (February 22) I called my doctor's office to schedule our first appointment.  Much to my dismay, they couldn't get us in until March 8!!  March 8, I thought?!  That's a LIFETIME away.  You mean, I have to carry this secret with me for the next TWO WEEKS??  It felt like an eternity.  And I was DYING to spread the word!

May 10, 2011

Ooo baby, baby!

Oh my goodness!  I have so much to tell you.  I can't believe the last time I posted anything was for Valentine's Day.  So much has happened since then!!

I come to you today with not ONE but TWO bits of exciting news!!  But...to keep you reading this sorry excuse for a blog, I'll save the most exciting news for last.

My first bit of exciting news is my wonderful blog face lift!  If you are reading this post from Google Reader or a Feedblitz email, be sure to visit the actual site here so you can see the amazing work of my blog designer and friend, Marina from Penny Lane Designs.  Marina has given my blog several face lifts over the years, and I am thrilled she was willing to work with me again on another wonderful design. But be patient as I work to get all the pages populated with content.  I am just too excited to wait until I get it all ready before showing it off!

But to the real point of my post...I am OVER THE MOON excited to announce that Kelly and I are expecting our first bundle of joy this fall!  We are due October 22, and can't wait to meet the newest addition to the O'Donnell family!

For most of you this "news" is not new seeing as how I made the official announcement on Facebook about six weeks ago, but I wanted to wait until the face lift was ready before making the official announcement on the blog.  I feel like I have TONS of updating to do, so bear with me as I try to recap the last 16 weeks over the next several posts.

Up next:
- How we found out
- How we told our parents and friends
- Our first appointment
- Baby bumps
- Pregnancy highlights

I am so excited that I FINALLY get to blog about our little peanut!  The whole reason I started this blog was so I would have a place to record and share the pictures and stories of our little ones.  And now it's finally here!  SO VERY EXCITED!!
